In this PW I think that magic will have to be included, a lot of people love magic and want to make themselves a really powerful wizard.

I think magic in PW should work by speaking in a language only known to wizards and the fairys in the air.
(This would be signified by just saying he muttered something under his breath, or simply some random latin words)

These fairys are invisible to everyone but can be seen with aid (I need an idea?)

Anyway, these spirits. These people in the air will do things for you, depending on what you do for them.

A fairy will move objects for you and create light when you need just to see you happy. They do white (good things) like healing and helping

A pixie will do it if it knows that it will annoy someone, for example making someone fall over or taking them down a wrong path. Pixies do grey magic which doesn't help anyone but doesn't hurt anyone

a Sprite can not move from the place it was born unless it is given external aid. There are four types of sprites.
Air Sprites - Help you control air, they are nearly everywhere
Water sprites - Will help you grant control over water but cannot leave the pond or river where they have been born from unless you help them.
Eath Sprites - are found in fields and forests, they can't live in urban area's and every building that is built the less they can travel. You can take them with you, they can control nature and mud.
Fire sprites - Are found only in the embers of a flame and die after a short while without prolonged heat, they desire to live forever and will grant you control over fire for as long as they live

An Imp
Imps aren't nearly as common as other fairys but they have more power then all of them. A pixie will do your dead, kill your enemys and torture your foes but at the price of your soul. Using an imp will make you less and less human, you will live a half life and once your soul is gone you are nothing but an empty shell.

The warlock/wizard/witches power level depends on how good they are at persuading the fairies to help them and how good there language is.
Staves and wands contain chemicals which help focus the fairies around it.

That'd be interesting.

I have an idea for the fairies being seen thing.

You can only see your OWN fairy. If you actually see a fairy that means you've found the one fairy in millions that is yours-- and it is rare for people to find the one that belongs to them.

That would be great but people would just keep finding my fairy and it wouldn't be rare anymore.
Maybe a PW mod could allow it on rare occasions.

Well maybe people can still use other fairies but not to the same extent-- you have to do something for the fairy in return. Give it something, do something for it, ect.

Any maybe some other magical races could be Nymphs who are elemental goddesses. They can give you temporary power over the element they control if you manage to capture one.

Pegasus can be used for transportation in fantasy areas.

Maybe Pheonix's, the half man half horse creatures, ect.

I did Nymphs but called them sprites instead, same difference.

We should defiantly have phoenix's and winged horses. I'm sure Phoenix's can do something magic.

i like this idea.

Well my whole thing with the "finding your fairy" is that it could make great adventure stories for people setting out to find their magical-creature that is linked with them. Maybe you can be linked with any magical creature you choose-- fairies, nymphs, pheonix, spirit animals (wild animals like tigers, bears, panthers, ect that are physically and emotionally linked to you. If you get hurt, it will hurt.)

That would be fantastic, at the moment i'm reading a book called northen lights that has something like that in it.
If the fairy got killed I don't think the owner should get killed, maybe hurt or injured but not killed.

Bunnay, I accidently deleted your thread, the revised version :O sorry.

Yeah, I think that would be fair, but maybe for Spirit animals since they are bigger and stronger; if they die, the character dies. Which is okay because in our PW you can make as many characters as you want anyway and place them in any location you want. So if one dies, make another.

Edit; I made a new thread, it's cool.

That would be ok Smile

what if you haven't found your fairy yet and then someone goes on a fairy killing spree, would you die?
Also, should the fairys be sentient or not? I think sentient.

No, the emotional-physical link only activates once you choose/find/pick your magical creature. But if you've picked yours and someone kills your fairy, it will only hurt you not kill you. If someone kills your spirit-animal, then yes you'll die.

Sentient sounds fine, btw. That way characters can bond with them-- people might even play the magical creatures.

Eh. I'm not so sure about the idea. It seems a little far-fetched to me. Give me a couple days and I am going to use my brain to create a general analysis of what I think the magic should be like. Ok...so prepare for some heavy stuff. XD

I don't like it because it seems to much like spirit-talking/commanding than actual magic, IMHO.

Using spirts could be a branch of magic, but I don't really see why we need a unified single explanation for all types of magic. I prefer magic as 'energy' (for lack of a better comparison, 'The Force' minus the light/dark duality is the best one I can put into words, but its hardly a good comparison.)

You don't have to use the spirit-animals if you don't want one. Besides, this is hardcore fantasy we're talking about so if your character isn't even in the correct area it won't pertain to them. However, I am strongly wanting to have them around because not only is it interesting, but it gives people a chance to play animal characters if they want to.

As for the defining of magic, I kind of agree. You can pretty much make up anything you want for magic, but the few things that Hex stated won't hurt anyone.

I agree with these creatures and this system, but the way Hex presented it made it seem like he was setting it up to be THE magic system.

No, no, no xD
We're not going to hand everyone a rule book for magic
Everyone is welcome to do as they please with magic under the waiver of common sense!
The above is just a few interesting things we thought would be fun.

I'm going to agree with Alkeni on this one. I like the idea of a Magic 'system', but not in the way that Hex seemed to be displaying. Spirits and such I think are ok...as well as the whole animal what-not and such, but I'm thinking...for like a 'magic' system, it will be formed from a type of weird named energy that exist...perhaps a more scientific way of explaining what happens, such as a manipulation of Sub-Zero Quantum foam which happens to be the essense of matter that makes up non-existence...aka Space.

Like I said before I don't think we need to put a name on everything or give a manual to everyone who wants to use magic. Magic is magic, that's all we need to know-- putting a name and set of rules on everything will get confusing for people. As long as people use common sense it should be fine.

Yea, I agree...but on the other hand, it could give us a place to come from.

While the pixie fair stuff is nice, it is really hard to vote here considering the conversation contained in the entire thread. Magic should be reserved for the individual character created but kept in check by the realm limits... possibly? I read somewhere in here about planet cores and magic abilities according to the realm/planet/cookie jar make up.

The amount of magic (if any) is determined by your location, as is the technology.

I think all together, the Magic really is going to depend on the characters as indiviuals, depending on their races and backgrounds, and of course....as Bunnay stated....where they come from. The world.

Cool. So what is the point of this poll? vote yes- gives the impression of it being the only type of magic. vote no- gives the impression of rejecting this type of magic.

Or is it simply..yeah this is acceptable. If so then you are doing exactly what you say you didn't want to do:

..which i agree to btw Smile
I am just confused Razz
